Rachel Goodwin: vocals, organ, regal, crwth, recorders, percussion Hervé Dréan: vocal, recorders, flute, English bagpipes, saz, Hungarian citera, gemshorn Martin Dréan & Mickaël Dénécé : samples and mixing.
In order to create the very wistful wind sound of one of the opening pieces of music, they had to make a new horn-type instrument that would recreate the sound of an original 14th century pipe as they were unable to find any suitable flute-like instrument that was acceptable to them. They approached their local dairy farmer who was delighted to let them have any number of old cow’s horns. Having selected a suitable sized horn they carved a wooden mouth-piece which could be played like a recorder, cleaned out and drilled holes in the horn to suit Hervé’s fingers and then tuned their new instrument by enlarging the holes where necessary. The result is nothing short of amazing.
In scene 8, where Guillaume is praying in the chapel before being knighted, the composition is based on a 13th century hymn dedicated to St Magnus, an early Christian monk from the Orkney Isles. The hymn has been arranged in authentic, medieval form in the Scottish tradition of that period and is sung by Rachel and Hervé. The recordings have been reworked incorporating many different sound samples and re-mixed on computers by their son Martin and his colleague, Mickaël, who are studying audio engineering in St Brieuc, as a project as part of their work experience for their Diploma.
“The imaginative quality of Maguy Bourzeix’s work never ceases to astonish. Her drawing technique is perfect”.
She is associated with the following foundations :
Through her paintings, one can discover the rich history, the legends and the beauty of her native Brittany. In typical fashion, she has immersed herself in the romantic story of “Jeanne et ses Chevaliers” and created, in five beautiful paintings, the principal roles of the Son et Lumière. The audience will be able to view her paintings of the characters in an exhibition at Mongrenier before seeing them come to life during the performance.
They perform different forms of drama for all audiences, often working together with a variety of artists in order to enrich their productions.
Quite simply, Joël and Michelle aim at sharing their passion for drama and production with the public. Communication: michjo@laposte.net
