Our spectacle has a cast of nearly 100 actors of all ages, all of whom come from the commune of Guégon and the surrounding communes. For the remainder of 2007 and the early part of 2008, the principals will be rehearsing their lines, prior to the recording sessions which will start in the Spring, 2008. Acting rehearsals will commence in May, 2008. In addition to the cast, there are a further 100+ volunteers who have offered their assistance and their skills in various ways and without whose unstinting commitment, there would be no show!

Clearly the initial target market for Sponsors’ advertising is the visitors who come to the performances: we are expecting between 2,500 and 3,000 spectators over the six performances. The audience will consist of tourists from France, the UK and many other countries, as well as local people. The Office of Tourism in Josselin has confirmed that in the months of July and August, 2006, nearly 15,000 tourists visited Josselin and that a high percentage of this number were from Britain. The Marie of Guégon will be sending a Bulleting featuring “Jeanne et ses Chevaliers” to every household in the Commune. There is also a wider market, which will be reached through Sponsors’ names and logos on our publicity material and by recognition in the media.

An inaugural meeting was held in the Spring of 2005, between Chris and Carol Sealy, Rachael Godwin (musician), Hervé Dréan (historian and musician), Daniel Bourzeix (treasurer) and Maguy Bourzeix (artist) to explore the possibility of staging the Son et Lumière. At that time, a draft of the story had been produced by Chris and Carol and following the meeting, plans were drawn up and a rough budget was prepared for the development of the project. We have now achieved the following:
A management team of experienced personnel has been formed to run the project and a detailed timetable of actions agreed
The budget has been confirmed and detailed quotations received for all the major cost elements
The initial draft of the story has been enlarged into a drama of ten scenes and the text (in French and English) has been written
A professional producer has been appointed and experienced sound and lighting experts commissioned
The majority of the music has been composed and will be pre-recorded during the autumn 2007
The first “casting” has been completed, resulting in the allocation of all of the 25 speaking roles.
The first rehearsals have taken place and the schedule for the next “readings” has been agreed.
The pre-recording of the drama will take place in February, 2008.
Extensive coverage in the local press (Ouest France, Les Infos, Le Ploermelais, La Gazette and French News) has been achieved, aimed at encouraging the co-operation and involvement of the local communities.
