The theme of this son et lumière presented by the Commune of Guégon is based on the history of Le Combat des Trente/The Battle of the Thirty Knights, which took place in 1351, during the 100 Years War between France and England, midway between the towns of Josselin and Ploermel. Historical documents record that one of the thirty Franco Breton knights who fought in this ferocious battle was called Guillaume de Montauban. Researches indicate that the family of de Montauban owned le Seigneurie de Maugremien (the ancient name for the Manoir de Mongrenier) from 1248 to 1360. Based on these two historical facts, a drama of love, treason, passion and disaster will unfold against the backcloth of the beautiful le Manoir de Mongrenier.

The title of our presentation is “Jeanne et ses Chevaliers” and the participants in this exciting project, the volunteers and the actors are all from Guégon and neighbouring Communes. The music, in its entirety, has been commissioned and will be specially composed for the event.

In our story, Jeanne de Montauban, sister of Guillaume, is affianced to a French knight much older than she but she falls in love with an English knight, William de Cailly, who is destined to fight in the battle against her brother. In the course of the battle, Guillaume kills her lover and becomes the hero of the battle.

The sound (text and music) will be pre-recorded in order to enable non-professional actors to participate and to enable the spectacle to be restaged in later years. In order to attract as wide an audience as possible, especially non-French speaking tourists, some of the text will be spoken in English and there will be synopses at the end of each scene in English. There will also be extensive notes about the drama in the souvenir programme.
