The event will take place on 24, 25, 26th & 31st July and 1st & 2nd August, 2008 with the gates opening at 18.30 to provide an evening of entertainment before the Son et Lumière commences. Should a performance have to be postponed due to inclement weather, then it will be rescheduled for either the 27th July or 3rd August.
For the first part of the evening, between 18.30 and 21.30, it is planned to provide the following attractions:
• Parades of knights on horseback
• Medieval dinners served in a marquee – pre-reserved for 80 spectators (Saturdays only)
• Barbeque buffets and beer tents
• Artisans’ stalls
• Jugglers and strolling musicians
• Games and Competitions
• Archery instruction and competitions
• Exhibition of Paintings
The audience stand will hold up to 500 spectators. The Son et Lumière will commence at 22.00 and finish at approximately 23.30. The beer tents will remain open until 00.30.
Josselin is a beautiful, little medieval town with a truly magnificent chateau, standing majestically over the River Oust. The town is 1,000 years old in 2008 and celebrations for the 1000th anniversary of Josselin will include:
• Medieval festival 13/14 July with events, medieval dress, markets and medieval banquets
• Parade of the actors in the Son et Lumière “Jeanne et ses Chevaliers” in medieval dress
• Street theatre by the drama club ADEC 56 during the summer season
• Evening events in the illuminated medieval town centre, with pig roasts, wine tasting, etc
• Historical and cultural conferences
• Performance of an oratorio in the ancient church of Notre Dame du Roncier in September.
The Anniversary celebrations will provide an ideal opportunity for all to participate in this very exciting and memorable event.
The Commune of Guégon and le Manoir de Mongrenier are situated in the very centre of a region in Brittany which is full of ancient monuments, historical sites and beautiful towns that have all played important roles in the development and history of Brittany (for example, Josselin, Vannes, Pontivy, Ploermel, Questembert, Malestroit).
It is in an area which is very popular with tourists from all over the world, not just for the historical context of it’s location but also for the beauty of the surrounding countryside and the River Oust.
In addition to enjoying the Son et Lumière, there are a number of ancient sites close to le Manoir de Mongrenier, all of which are connected, in some way, to the Combat des Trente and visits to all of which will contribute to the overall enjoyment of the event.
| • | The Colonne des Trente commemorates the names of all the Franco Breton knights who took part in the Battle, including Guillaume de Montauban. |
| • | The Croix des Anglais, recently rediscovered, commemorates the Anglo Bretons who took part in the Battle. |
| • | The Chapelle de St Maudé is the burial place of those Franco Breton knights who died in the Battle. |
| • | The Chapelle de la Madelene in Malestroit where the treaty of 1343 was signed between Edward III of England and Philippe de Valois, King of France. |
| • | The medieval town of Josselin, with its magnificent château is commemoring the town’s 1000th anniversary in July and August 2008, with a “fête medieval”, street parades in costume and banquets. |
